Koi Family

KOI FAMILY -Wheat Germ-

As water temperature goes down, please lower the volume of high protein food or color enhancing food. At lower temperature, they are getting hard to digest. At 65F, you should cut those food. Instead, you should increase digestable wheat germ Koi food.

Koi Family is a long selling wheat germ Koi food in Japan. I am sure your Koi will love it.

iRefresh o Factor VL makes water where your Koi can grow strong and big.

Refresh Rock & Powder
Refresh uses natural montmorillonite clay mined only from a limited mountain of Yasawagi, Akita prefecture in Japan. In this area, the clay has been passed down the ages from mouth to mouth as "mysterious soil" which worked for diarrhea, wound, toothache well.

Refresh makes water in a concrete pond as nutritious as water in an excellent mud pond. In addition, effective minerals and soil bacteria in Refresh keep the fine water quality and promote the treatment on sick Koi. More and more hobbyists use Refresh with salt to cure Koi diseases such as gill disease.

The last sorting of Tosai
On September 18, I went to the last sorting at Isa Koi Farm, who is one of the famouse Japanese Showa breeder.
This pond that they pulled on the day is about as big as 0.2 acres.
Usually, they do the first culling as immediate as fry hatch. And then, they cull them 3-4 times unitl Autumn. On the day, they were going to do the last sorting on this pond. There were only 1100 of them that has been culled from 50,000 fry. .
I was very excited what kind of Koi were going to be scooped and what they are going to cull.

Ikeage* 1

As you can see form the pictures above and the left, they drained pond water almost 80%. Then, with the big catching net, they chased the fry from one end to the other gradually.  With one attempt,  they could take about 90% of the fry in the pond, they said.
It is very important to do this slowly but surelyl because this could hurt the fry.

After they pulled them into the small area, they scooped Koi with a big net. This is more difficult than it looks. You have to do it very quickly as well as gently. Again, it is because we do not want to hurt the Koi.
6 months old fry

6 months old Isa Showa

They were all plumply and healthy. Of course, they were beautiful. It was unbelievable that they are the same fry that I saw in Spring. 6 months ago, they were simply eggs and tiny fry.

Eventually, they go everywhere not only in Japan but also over the world.

Hi* is still thin, but it will be beautiful red by Spring when they are available

Sorting of the fry

Look at this Showa. It is now about 12cm (5").
Note the pattern on the side.
There is Hi pattern on its trunk. And Sumi on the trunk appears in dense black with growth.
It has not shown much Sumi but will appear as it grows.

Mr. Isa said " This year's Koi are growing very well." I agree. I can not wait to introduce those beautiful Isa Showa to you.
