Autumn in Niigata As it cools down to 55F, all
the trees of the mountains in Niigata begins to turn red or
yellow. It looks like the entire mountains changes the colors. The
autumn in Niigata is absolutely beautiful. As the mountains turns
out, Koi in Niigata also show the brilliant colors and that pleases
the eyes. |
| Tosai just before release into the mud
pond | | As
was reported in the last few diaries, the very small fry grow up
about 7 inch-size by autumn. They were only 0.2 in. small when
they were born in spring. Those Tosai will be raised in a greenhouse
during winter until spring. During the winter, Mr. Isa sort
them for another three times and select 1500 Tosai out
of 20,000. When spring comes during the month of May,
they release the 1500 to a mud pond again. Tosai just before
being discharged into a mud pond.

release the excellent Tosai |
Hi and Sumi of Isa Showa are so beautiful that they are very
popular in Japan. First of all, it is because they use such an
expensive but top-class quality parental Koi. In addtion, high
breeding technique of Isa Koi Farm need to be taken into
consideration. Last of all, the reason for the beautiful Koi lie in
the soil quality of the mud pond. The soil quality is very critical
because it influences the beauty and growth of Koi.
Needless to say, the soil quality that Mr. Isa has is very
good and suitable for Showa.
Only excellent and beautiful
Tosai are released to grow to 2 years old in the mud pond. They
release 300 excellent Koi into about 10760 square feets mud
ponds. The mud pond is in the forests. It is very quiet
environment, which is excellent and indispensable for Koi growing
because it does not cause any stress to
Koi..

The Day of Ikeage* One day in October, the
pond is seined and the Koi are harvested. It takes seven or eight
people. Koi buyers gathered from all over Japan on that day, more
than 1000 of Koi was sold out instantly.
We were there first
in the morning and waited until the Koi will be ready for sale. Taro
picks up excellent and beautiful Koi from a lot of Koi. The new
fry that grew17inches since this May, were 7 inches in this spring
and are absolutely beautiful.
It is collected cargo by
the Japanese head office, and these selected Koi are transported to
JKO. And these are sent to the American Koi lover. |

| It was raining on the day. I wore a traditional umbrella hat. Do
I look like working or playing? What is the
difference?! |
