Why buy at Koi Auction?
There are various ways to buy Koi. But we believe our Koi Auction is one of the best sources of your Japanese Koi hunt. Here are some reasons why:
  1. In Nishikigoi, who finds Koi is more important than who breeds Koi. It is because every single piece of Koi from famous breeders are not necessarily top quality Koi. It is important that the experienced dealer finds or selects top quality one among so many choices at the excellent breeders. It is the experienced professional dealer that counts. Mamoru Kodama, chairman of Miyoshiike Co., Ltd. with his 40 yrs. of experience, handpicks all the Koi on Koi Auction.
  2. All the information of every Koi will be open equally to every Koi hobbyist on the net. By bidding a bit more than others, you can obtain beautiful Nishikigoi.
  3. Strong and Good Relationship with Breeders is our fortune. Building good relationship with good breeders in Japan is the most important. Buying Koi from breeders is not just a matter of money, but also a matter of trust. It counts if the dealer is trustworthy and skillful enough for the breeders to leave his precious Koi. In another words, if they could not rely on you, they did not want to sell it to you. This relationship gets important more and more as the quality of Koi gets higher and higher. In addition to it, good relationship with them will bring us lower cost. It is not too much to say that we have spent the whole life (38 years) of the company only to build this good relationship with the breeders in Japan. Strong and good relationship with them is our fortune.
  4. The Koi on JapanKoiOnline are 100% bred in Japan, the origin country of Nishikigoi.
  5. No Reserve! Yes, you heard it right. We take pride in setting NO reserve. No matter low the final price is, that is the price you get. This is why we are not only the first but also TRUE Koi auction site.
  6. Being a Koi dealer for 40 years, we understand that healthy Koi is one of the most important factors for hobbyists. Therefore, we conduct very intensive quarantine method before we ship Koi.

Auction & Bidding Info

How do I bid?
We use a helpful bidding system (called proxy bidding) to make bidding on auctions simple and easy.
Here's how it works:
  • When you place a bid, you enter the maximum amount you'd be willing to pay for this particular bid. Your maximum amount is kept confidential from other bidders.
  • The Koi Auction bidding system compares your bid to those of the other bidders.
  • The system places bids on your behalf, using only as much of your bid as is necessary to maintain your high bid position. The system will bid up to your maximum amount.
  • If another bidder has a higher maximum, you'll be outbid. BUT, if no other bidder has a higher maximum, you win the Koi. And you could pay significantly less than your maximum price!
When you submit your bid, please make sure you put the right amount because no cancellation is accepted once submitted.

How do know if I win?
You will be notified by e-mail.

What do I do after I win?
Please contact us with payment and shipping information within 3 days.

I bid against myself to raise my maximum and the high bid increased. Why?
In most cases bidders cannot outbid themselves. There are two exceptions, however:
  • Let's say you are tied with another bidder, but you are the high bidder because you placed the high bid first. If you place another bid to raise your maximum, you will lose your favored "early bird" status. As a result of placing another later bid, Kodama Koi Farm will increase your bid to one bid increment more just so that you will remain the high bidder.
  • If your current high bid is less than a full bid increment above the next highest bid, and you place another bid, your bid will increase to a full bid increment above the next highest bid. The proxy bidding system will try to make sure there is a full bid increment between the current high bid and the next highest-bid whenever that is possible. For instance, if you have a situation where your maximum bid is $52, but the next highest bid is actually less than a full bid increment lower than that, say $50, then if you increase your maximum bid the current price will become $55, a full bid increment above the next-highest bid.

You set NO reserve. Is this true?
Absolutely. The price at closing time of auction is the price you pay, no matter how low it is.

Our goal is to provide the best place for Koi hobbyists to obtain the higher quality Koi for more reasonable price. For us to achieve the goal, we simply believe in NO reserve at our auction.

Can I cancel my bid? I am no longer interested in the Koi.
We are sorry, but no cancellation will be accepted after submitting the bid.

Our goal is to provide the best place for Koi hobbyists to obtain the higher quality Koi for more reasonable price. For us to achieve the goal, we set no reserve. And of course, once auction begins, we will never get involved with the auctions. In return, we simply ask bidders to be committed to their bids.
In any case cancellation need to be accepted, 20% cancellation fee must be paid. It is still JKO's discretion if we accept the cancellation.

Is Auction running throughout a year?
Yes. Our goal is to provide higher quality Japanese Koi for more reasonable price throughout the year. You can always visit us to enjoy our new and quality Koi!

Or you can pay by C.O.D. FedEx requires extra $10 for C.O.D. delivery.

Do I pay tax?
State laws require companies to collect sales tax from residents shipping merchandise to states where the company has established offices. Kodama Koi Farm, Inc. has the office in California; we are, therefore, required to collect sales tax on orders shipped to locations in the state of California.

Shipping Method

How do you ship Koi to me?
Your Koi will be delivered by FedEx priority delivery usually by 10:30AM in most of the cities. Delivery time for some rural area may be different. Please check the estimate arrival time with FedEx (1-800-GoFedEx).

When can you ship?
We can ship your Koi from Tuesday through Friday. For example, if your Koi is scheduled to be shipped on Tuesday, you will receive them on Wednesday, around 10:30 AM or later if in rural area.

How much is the shipping?
Shipping cost will be calculated by the weight of the box and the distance to your destination. On average, one box is 35 lb. One box can take:
  • About 5 Koi of 8 in. (20cm)
  • About 4 Koi of 12 in. (30 cm)
  • About 3 Koi of 16 in. (40cm)

Please note that this is not the absolute formula of packing. We need to consider Koi's condition, water temperature, and time to the destination etc. for packing. We may pack fewer or more of your Koi in a box depending on the individual situation.

If you have any questions on the shipping, please e-mail us at info@kodamakoifarm.com

Do you do Saturday delivery?
Yes. We ship Koi wherever and whenever FedEx goes. Saturday delivery requires an additional $12.50 each box.

Do I have to be there when Koi is delivered?
Yes. Arrange to be home the date and time of your Koi arrival. If not, please arrange somebody at home. It is important to open the box and release them as soon as you can because they will be exhausted from their trip.

Can I pick up the Koi at the closest FedEx station?
Yes. It might be better for some of you because you can probably pick up your Koi as soon as they open the station. If they deliver, you may not be their first stop. To check your closest location, please call FedEx at 1-800-Go-FedEx or (1-800-463-3339) and provide that address with us.

Can you hold my Koi while I bid on some more Koi?
Yes, we can. We understand it is important that you combine your winnings to save the shipping cost. Therefore, we hold your Koi for 10 days with the guarantee of the health. During the period, please bid and find companions for your shipment.

If you would like us to hold your Koi, please:

  1. Contact us and tell us your requests,
  2. Provide us with your credit card number to confirm your winnings. We will not charge you until the 10th day or if you pay C.O.D.
The 10 days will be counted from the next day of auction end. For example, if an auction closes on Wednesday, Thursday is the first day.

Can you hold my Koi after the (10 days) holding period?
Yes, we will if you need to do so. And we will do our very best to keep your Koi in good and healthy condition until the shipment.
  1. We need to settle the payment on the 10th day.
  2. We will hold NO responsibility after 10 days as to what happens to your Koi.

What is your guarantee?
  1. We guarantee the health of your Koi during our holding policy period of 10 days.
  2. We guarantee the life of Koi for 48 hours from the packing time, providing that Koi is shipped out within the 10-day holding period.
We believe this hardly happens, but if a problem is found, please contact us as soon as possible. We will reserve this credit towards your next auction, or we will return your money. Shipping charges are not refundable.

Exceptions: In the following cases, our life guarantee does not apply:
  1. When Koi is shipped out after our holding period.
  2. When Koi died or damaged at customers place due to the uncontrollable accidents such as jumping out of the pond, electric shortage etc.
  3. When Koi was not quarantined in a separate tank in a proper and reasonable manner before Koi are introduced to new pond.

Do you ship Koi to Canada or any other countries but the US?
We are afraid that we are not currently setup to ship Koi to any other counties but the US. We do not ship Koi to Canada either because FedEx cannot guarantee how long it takes to clear customs. The only way for Canada is that you cross the boarder and pick up your Koi at the closest FedEx station inside the US, and bring them back to Canada with you. So far, this is how we have been shipping Koi to people in Canada and it goes smoothly.

* There is also another way to ship Koi by Air Canada, but it is costly. So please give us a call to inquire this method.

Can I pick up my Koi at your place, instead of them being shipped?
Yes, it is no problem. We are open to the public on Saturdays (8:30 AM to 4:00 PM). If you must visit us during weekdays for the pickup, please contact us for the appointment. Our location.

Can you ship supplies with Koi?
As long as it fits inside the box and it does not affect your Koi during the transportation, there is no problem. Of course, if you would like to have the products shipped separately, by the FedEx priority delivery, which is not a problem.

We have good selections of products at Koi Supplies section. Please take a visit.

Can you ship Koi by Air Cargo?
Yes. We understand customers have various needs on how they want to meet their new beloved Koi. As a courtesy to our customers, we will start a trial of shipping Koi by Air cargo: Delta Dash and Southwest Airlines.

Guidelines
We will ship Koi "Same Day" delivery by Delta or Southwest. "Same Day" delivery is scheduled every Wednesday only. Customers need to confirm their request by 12:00PM Pacific Time every Tuesday. Our holding policy will be applied to this service.

Customer must pick up the Koi box within 2 hours after the plane has landed to keep the 48 hours life guarantee active.

We are happy and intend to provide this service to every customer. But due to the various flight schedules, we may not be able to provide this service to everybody.

We may discontinue this service at anytime without advance notice. The price is subject to change without notice.

Prices
Please add Shipping and Handling fees to the freight charge:
$25.00 for one box shipment
$15.00 for each box when more than 2 boxes shipment

Delta Dash
The rates are based per individual piece on three weight ranges:
  1. 1 to 50 pounds $70.00
  2. 51 to 70 pounds $ 92.00
  3. 71 to 100 pounds $135.00

Southwest Airlines
The rate varies by weight and destination. Please contact us for the pricing. (Make sure Southwest flies to your airport)

Their price is determined by the total weight unlike Delta. So when you have many boxes to ship, Southwest may be the better option.

Quarantine

What is quarantine? /   Why do I need to quarantine?
Separate quarantine tank is a Must-tool for Koi hobbyists.

Newly purchased Koi could possibly still carry parasites, bacteria, fungus etc., even though your Koi dealer including us did their very best to eliminate these. Besides, if they are shipped to you in a box, they are usually extremely stressed and exhausted. It is important to provide them a nice surrounding so that they can recover quickly.

Keeping and treating new Koi in the separate quarantine tank for 21 days is the best way to decrease the risk of disease before introducing them to your main pond. In addition this will give your new Koi a chance to rest.

We strongly request the quarantine of new Koi to every customer who purchase Koi from us.

How to I quarantine?
Prepare:
         Tank
         Net to cover the tank
         Small filter and pump
         Air pump
Test kit: ammonia, nitrite, pH and salt
         Salt
         Melafix
         Supaverm
         Water thermometer
         Ultimate
         Heater

Before you receive your Koi:
  1. Prepare a separate tub or tank for your Koi to rest. Although it depends on the size of Koi, 100-300 gallon tank will do. You can use blue show tanks as well.
  2. Fill in with fresh dechlorinated water, well water or better yet water from your exiting pond, providing your existing pond stock is in good condition.
  3. Filtration system for the tank is ideal. If you do not have a filtration system, provide sound aeration by air pump.
  4. Keep the water temperature at 72 F or more. If the tank was small enough, one or two aquarium heaters will do the job.
  5. Please add salt to make 0.3% concentration. (3 lb salt per 100 gallon water)

When you receive your Koi:
  1. Please check the condition of Koi. (If they look very exhausted, leaning on one side, moving very little, lifeless release into the aeration water tank right away.)
  2. If they look OK, please float the bag for 15-30 min. for water temperature adjustment.
  3. After that, please release only Koi. Please do not allow bagged water into the quarantine tank. If they looked extremely exhausted, please open the bag and release them as soon as possible.
  4. Also add anti-biotic such as Melafix to the quarantine tank.
  5. Please cover the tank entirely. Koi tend to jump out to escape, especially when they encounter a totally new surrounding.

While you keep your Koi in quarantine tank:
  1. Please observe them carefully to see if the Koi develops any problems for 14-21 days.
  2. If you do not have the filtration system, please make partial water change every 2-3 days (about 25%). Add salt and Melafix accordingly.
  3. After about three days, Supaverm is recommended.
  4. Feed digestible food to your Koi every day such as Manda Fu.
  5. Check Ammonia and nitrite every day. If you find Ammonia, use Ultimate.

How does JKO quarantine?
Japan Koi Inc. will not release any new shipments of Koi until all intensive 3-weeks-quarantine has been completed. Every shipment will not be released until it finishes our intensive 3 weeks-quarantine.

Not only are the Koi treated with adequate and proper medications, scraped to microscope and observed thoroughly, with careful, caring hands, we instituted additional quarantine procedure as follows:
  1. Every new shipment is quarantined at the isolated and restricted greenhouse in the farm for a minimum of three weeks.
  2. The pond is heated at least 72 F. We purposely create the surroundings where bacteria, parasites, fungus and even virus can break out.
  3. During this period, they will also be kept with registered pathogen free Koi (no immunity.) These pathogen free Koi will act as much as canaries did in the old coal mines. If there is any problem in the shipment, the pathogen free Koi will catch it right away.
  4. After the 3 weeks of quarantine, regardless if the pathogen free Koi becomes sick or not, we will send them to the laboratory to make sure they do not have any hidden or invisible diseases.
  5. No Koi will not be sold from this shipment until the results has been confirmed from the laboratory.

In Addition:
  1. When we imports Koi directly from breeders, Mamoru Kodama carefully examines Koi before we purchase them.
  2. When we import Koi that we stock at Miyoshiike, there will be another 3 weeks quarantine performed under the careful health management of Kazuya Takayama, manager of Koi Health of Miyoshiike. He will even select several Koi from each breeder randomly and tests them at 72 F. It is a long and stressful journey from Japan to the US. So Miyoshiike ships only healthy Koi. We will not have Koi shipped if the Koi are not healthy to travel. Combined with 3 weeks of quarantine in California, and an additional prior 3 weeks quarantine in Japan will assure the health of Koi thoroughly.

How does JKO conduct Health Control of Koi?
Every pond has its own dedicated and identified nets and disinfected very frequently.

Other tools such as tubs are disinfected each time of use.

We do not accept any returned Koi. Because we have no control on Koi's condition as well as customer's pond, once Koi leaves our facility, we do not allow them to return back to us.

We open to the public only on the weekends. Nobody but our staff members are allowed to touch the nets, water and Koi. Every staff member is trained to bleach their hands and arms every time they go into the pond area and handle the water before they move to another pond.

Is your quarantine done before or after auctions close?
We quarantine Koi prior to the auction. So as soon as auction ends, they are ready to be shipped.
